Adirondack Is Back - The Hottest New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture!

It's not a big surprise that a classic American style such as the Adirondack Chair has made such a comeback in only the last couple of years. This trend is spreading fast because people all over the country are taking the opportunity to spend a lot more of their free time relaxing and kicking back in a meticulously created outdoor living space. I remember as a six year old, sinking all the way back into one of these familiar old chairs, with my feet hanging over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled apples from the trees and mused about the warm, homeade apple pie mounded with melting vanilla ice cream that we knew my grandma would have for us after supper that night. I balanced my lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and soft. Grandpa's stories made time fly. It is truly no mystery why we like to sit back and relax outdoors, whether that is in your garden area, on the deck, out on the patio, or sitting on the front porch watch people go by. What better way to relax than to slide into a wonderful, high backed, deep seated Adirondack and leave your troubles behind.

Where exactly did this little part of Americana come from? Actually, it comes from the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. This design was commonplace at the various vacation resorts and mountain retreats that were so popular back in the day. By the time the 1940's came around the Adirondack style was just about every place. The furniture trend began spreading to the south and quickly headed west . As the Adirondack furniture style got more and more popular, and found its way around the country, influences regionally started to show up. The furniture design was applied to a wide variety of styles of outdoor furniture including; porch swings, gliders, benches, rocking chairs, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece they call the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This charming little design combines two chairs with a table in between them built as a single piece. What a perfect way to spend a warm Spring afternoon with a good friend!

You're going to be shocked and happy to find a large collection of Adirondack style furniture available today. The original style has not only withstood the test of time, but the Adirondack phenomenon has exploded with a pleasant selection of material, colors, finishes, and styles. Classic Adirondack style furniture is built with wood that is known for resisting deterioration and insects including oak, cypress, red or white cedar, or cherry. The wood that is selected is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do individual designs. A hot new option in classic Adirondack style is patio furniture constructed using polymer "lumber" that is made from plastic recycled packaging, milk cartons, and such. This is not only an environmentally responsible way to buy your furniture, but you have some advantages with durableness, longevity, ease of care, and your colors won't eventually fade as the pigment is mixed all the way through the plastic with UV inhibitors added for protection.
